
Mr. Newcomb was principal of the graded schools in Golconda, Ill. He enlisted in Co. D, 95th Ill. Inf. Vols. in 0860,
and was soon after appointed clerk in the assistant adjutant general's office, where he remained nearly three years;
was transferred to Co. G, 127th Ill.; mustered out as Corporal 17 Aug. 1865. He then attended the State Normal School nearly
three years, after which he entered the teaching profession. He later removed to La Jara, Colo., where children iii-ix were born.
